Somerville Open Studios
Every spring, artists of Somerville open their doors and welcome the public into their studios to observe their artwork for a dedicated weekend. Organized by a group of artists with great vision since 1999, Somerville Open Studios exists to connect the community with its artists and their art. It's a rare opportunity not only to admire finished artwork for sale, but also to witness the process of making art, while interacting with the artist. Beginning Friday evening and extending all day Saturday and Sunday, the event is free and open to all ages. You can take your time meandering through the streets and into open studios marked by the signature orange "SOS" balloons, or plan your art tour ahead of time by picking up a published map and artist directory found at many local Somerville businesses in the days leading up to the special weekend. Enjoy travel between studios by foot, bike, or one of the free SOS trolleys that run back and forth across the city throughout the weekend. Somerville studios range from the artist's home, their garage, or the many ateliers in one of the large studio buildings in Somerville, such as Vernon Street Studios, where you can pleasantly lose yourself in the 100+ artist work spaces. A festive celebration of Somerville's rich and dynamic arts community, Somerville Open Studios is an annual weekend not to be missed.
